I AM A NON-SWIMMER?
MAY I STILL COME TO A WATERGYM CLASS?







You do not need to know how to swim to participate in WaterGym® as long as you are in the presence of a trained lifeguard on duty, who is watching you at all times. Many of the Marin County WaterGym® classes have trained lifeguards on duty, but some do not. If you are a non-swimmer, it's your responsibility to call ahead to find out. For your safety, if there is no lifeguard on duty at the facility you are planning to attend, we advise you not to attend class. If there's a trained lifeguard on duty, let them know you are a non-swimmer and follow any guidelines they suggest.


SUGGESTIONS FOR NON-SWIMMERS STARTING WATERGYM
Start WaterGym® in the shallow end of the pool, next to the pool wall, wearing your flotation belt around your waist. Hold onto the wall if needed during your workout, and continue to exercise in the shallow end of the pool for as long as you like. Never go into the deep end of the pool if it's not comfortable for you.

Almost all of our non-swimmers gain confidence and eventually want to venture into deeper water. If this happens to you, we always suggest you stay close to the wall, and take it easy the first time. Most likely, it will be an exhilarating and exciting experience and the comfort of having a wall next to you will help your confidence and enjoyment.

Remember! Our flotation belt is NOT a lifesaving device, and should not be used as such. Yet using the flotation belt has helped many of our non-swimming clients become so comfortable in water, that many have now learned to swim and LOVE WATER! We are very proud of them.
